A public benefits platform is the least forgiving kind of consumer software there is. The people using it are often applying under pressure, frequently on an old phone over a poor connection, and an interaction that fails silently is not an inconvenience — it is somebody not receiving support they are entitled to.
Architected and shipped registration pathways and application modules in React. The substance of it was state: multi-step eligibility forms that have to survive a dropped connection, a back button and a half-finished session, and which talk to several secured backend services that do not share a data model.
Alongside that, rendering and memory profiling — long forms with conditional branches degrade badly under sustained concurrent load, and the work was keeping the interface responsive at the times of day when the most people need it.
